Going Shopping
Procedures were established by the East German Army to allow long lines of citizens to pass through to the West. At West Berlin banks an allotment of Deutschmarks awaited them so that they could go shopping, and there were long lines at the bank, as well as at the Turkish fruit stands where many hundreds of bananas were grabbed up. I noticed people carrying quantities of disposable diapers and other products taken for granted in the west.
